The Sky View Pastoral Story…..

One day a Tradie said to a Lady “Come back to Queensland with me
I haven’t a bean to bless myself, but there’s lots up there to see…..”
And she said “Yes”.
 And so the adventure begins…

And what an adventure its been so far…

We bought our first property in 1988 at Habana near Mackay N.Q., and then a larger place at Owens Creek in the Pioneer Valley where we ran Droughtmaster cattle. When the kids were born we opened a saddlery in Mackay township.  Then we decided to make the big move down south to the Darling Downs.

“Where the valley meets the sky”

The latest chapter in our story brings us to Mt. Sturt in Queensland where we have set up a small farming enterprise breeding cattle, sheep and pigs and growing herbs in our broken basalt mountain soil. Our property boasts panoramic views across the valley to NSW, and from the farm gate we are a leisurely 20km drive East of Warwick towards Killarney. It’s a place to exhale and take it all in.  A place for sharing the love, and slow cooking comfort foods on those blustery winter days.

We reckon the best foods have a provenance, and come from as close to the farm gate as possible. Pure food that is made here, grown yesterday and on your plate today just tastes better.  So that’s at the heart of everything we do – hug-in-a-bowl goodness”

Simple. Honest. With no added anything, no pesticides, just farm grown goodness.

WHAT WE GROW, MAKE AND SELL

The Larder – Farm Store – To complement our beef, lamb and pork, we have developed a range of Herb Salts made specifically from our very own herbs grown right here on farm that are available in our Farm Store . When they are in season we also do dried tomatoes and dried vegie medleys using produce from our local growers. And some cheeky gin botanicals and local dried fruit slices .  All of our ingredients are 100% Australian.

Sky View Pastoral Mobile Kitchen – farm grown comfort food. – keep an eye out on our Facebook page to see where we’ll be. Everything we do in the Mobile kitchen is made using our farm grown beef, lamb, produce and herbs and our menu is seasonal depending on whats available when.

We breed Red Poll Cattle that are renowned for their lovely nature, ease of calving and keeping condition. We have stud and commercial Red Polls in the paddocks and often have them for sale. We are currently working on an interesting line of “Red Masters” – Red Polls crossed over our lovely Droughtmaster cows – to cater for the Northern Market who are looking for tick resistance and improvements in meat quality with a Bos Indicus/Bos Taurus blend that works.

At the end of the day, we work hard and we love what we do.
We’ve survived drought, bushfires and floods and we’re still here. And we’re proudly Queenslanders. Its who we are. And how fortunate are we to live in a place where at night you can see a million stars, and by morning light you can watch the mist rise across the valley.

That’s our Sky View Story. Thankyou for so much for visiting. Do drop us a line sometime .
